In observance of the Fire Prevention Month, the Jalaur River Multi-Purpose Project Stage II (JRMP II) had its first fire drill.

On March 20, 2017, the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) facilitated the said activity at the JRMP II main building. BFP Fire Team from Tagbak Station, headed by SFO1 Jerry F. Gedoria, explained and demonstrated to the Fire Brigade of the JRMP II the different ways to save lives in cases of fire. Moreover, they did the assessment of the team’s performance during the actual exercise.

“Maayo ini indi lamang sa workplace namon, pati man sa amon panimalay,”(It is good not only in our workplace but also in our home) said Engineer Jonel B. Borres, Division Manager for Engineering. He added that the exercise will educate the Fire Brigade of the JRMP II for a coordinated approach in cases of emergency like fire.

As part of the orientation, FO3 Val Cesar Divinagracia explained the elements of fire and how to eliminate and control its spread. He also discussed the importance of a Fire Brigade Organization (FBO) in an establishment or agency for better coordination and management  in cases of emergency.

JRMP II Fire Brigade is headed by Engineer Gregorio  P. Eslaban Sr. as the Fire Chief. Under him are the Communication, Evacuation, Security and Traffic, Medical, Search and Rescue and the Fire Fighting Teams. These teams have specific responsibilities which were practiced during the actual drill.

With the prepared fire situation, the actual fire drill was conducted at the JRMP II main building with the BFP officers assessing it. A passing rate was earned despite the fact that it was the first time that JRMP II hosted an independent fire drill.

As emphasized by the BFP officers, prevention is much better than suppression. /JP (IRENEO J. HORTILLOSA III)
