NIA Keeps JRMP II Stakeholders Informed

National Irrigation Administration (NIA) reported updates to the Local Government Units (LGU) affected and benefited of the Jalaur River Multi-Purpose Project Stage II (JRMP II) on January 7-31, 2019. This was in preparation for the construction phase of the project as Daewoo Engineering and Construction, the contractor, has started its civil works.

Areas covered are the Municipalities of Calinog, Lambunao, Janiuay, Badiangan, Cabatuan, Alimodian, San Miguel, Oton, Tigbauan, New Lucena, Sta. Barbara, Barotac Nuevo, Anilao, Dueñas, Mina and the city of Passi.
Members of the Sangguniang Bayan, the Municipal Mayor, Department Heads and Punong Barangays of affected areas were updated on the construction schedule and scope of works in their respective municipalities as well as roles and responsibilities of the LGU stated in the Memorandum of Agreement by and between NIA and the LGU.

Coordination between the NIA and the LGU is important in the success of the implementation of JRMP II especially in securing the safety and health of the public during construction stage as well as the protection of the contractor and their equipment. Moreover, the LGU also plays an important role in the collection and disposal of waste materials in the construction sites and at the same time implementation of existing ordinances in the Municipalities.

Aside from the LGUs, NIA also conducted meetings with the Irrigators’ Associations within the new areas and existing National Irrigation Systems (NIS) later last year. Once completed, the project will irrigate a total of 31,840 hectares of farm lots. /JP Ramon Salvilla
