Jalaur joins Piyesta sa Kakahuyan

The Jalaur River Multi-Purpose Project Stage II (JRMP II) joined 19th Piyesta sa Kakahuyan organized by Iloilo Provincial Local Government Unit (PLGU) on October 6, 2018.

A total of 10,000 seedlings of various native trees were planted aiming to rehabilitate Agony Hill, Barangay Taban-Maquining, Alimodian, Iloilo.

Mayor Geofree Alonsabe of Alimodian appealed to the participants to unite in fighting climate change and preserving the environment. Piyesta sa Kakahuyan, initiated by the provincial government headed by Governor Arthur Defensor Sr., is just one of the initiatives for environmental conservation.

“Let us help plant trees to protect our environment”, Alonsabe added.

Meanwhile, Governor Defensor emphasized that tree is life. He added that the result of the yearly tree planting activity will be enjoyed and appreciated by the next generation.

 “We come here to commit our vow to plant trees and to preserve our environment”, Defensor said.

An estimated of 1,200 participants from government agencies, academe, and private sectors planted native trees including tapiyay, narra, duhat and langka. /JP Ramon Salvilla
